The market leader in collaborative robotics is the Danish Universal Robots, which is also represented by Apex Automation. We are Finland's first Universal Robots certified system integrator.
Acquiring, installing, programming and implementing a collaborative robot, or Cobot, with the help of a local professional saves time and money. Apex Automation offers a comprehensive service for this.
COBOT AND HUMAN WORK IN COLLABORATION
Collaborative robots, or cobots, are a flexible, fast and cost-effective solution for various industrial companies. In an ideal work environment, people do jobs they are best suited to — for example, product quality control. Likewise, cobots perform repetitive, manual, and even dangerous tasks.
COBOT OR INDUSTRIAL ROBOT?
The strength of the collaboration robot is precisely the rapid implementation and flexibility between different tasks. A cobot can be trained for new tasks or even moved to the other side of the factory during the same day. Thanks to the cobot’s built-in safety features, it can work side-by-side with other employees.
Lightness and flexibility bring their own limitations using collaboration robots. If large production lines, fast work cycles or heavy parts are required, the traditional industrial robot is better suited to the need. We also provide professional assistance in the acquisition, programming and implementation of industrial robots!
THE PROCESS OF ACQUIRING A COLLABORATION ROBOT
Acquisition and implementation of the cobot can be completed very quickly — even two weeks after purchase, the cobot can already be working full-time in your production.
First, Apex experts consult with the customer the place where the cobot would be needed. Once the role of the cobot has been identified together, the appropriate robot model and tools are selected. A demo application is then created for the cobot, on the basis of which the customer can make a purchase decision. All these steps are without obligation.
Once the deal has been agreed, our machine safety experts will first make a risk assessment and a safety plan for the cobot. Security planning uses the cobot’s own security features and, if necessary, external protections. After this, the final plan is complete and the robot and equipment are ordered.
Upon receipt of the equipment, installation and implementation will be carried out at the customer’s premises. The end result is a production-ready CE-certified collaboration robot.
MACHINE SAFETY IS PART OF ACQUIRING A COBOT
Already in the cobot procurement phase, it is worthwhile getting a machine safety perspective. If you do not have experience in this area, using the services of a machine safety expert is the best help!
An integral part of the security of collaborative robots is risk assessment and management. Initially it’s good to consider what kind of application the cobot is being used for. The cobot has built-in security features that make it unnecessary for external security devices. Nevertheless, the intended use can still cause hazards. The safety of the Cobot can be compromised, for example, if a welding torch is installed at the end of the cobot arm or if a sharp part is fitted.
The risk assessment examines whether the collaborative robot requires additional security measures. The risk assessment includes the determination of limit values, the identification of incidents and the assessment of the magnitude and significance of the risks. Finally, risk mitigation with the necessary safeguarding measures and residual risk management are defined.
